Longing by Karin Andersen

POEM: Longing

A poem by Karin Andersen

BY KARIN ANDERSEN

She’s peeling the onions of sadness in the afternoon light,
the kitchen counter dappled
with the green dancing shadows of avocado leaves,
speckled with her tears.
She fries the onions at sunset,
adding regret, cauliflower, turmeric and lentils,
and stirs until the memory dissolves.
